Almost six months after eighteen-year-old Samantha Giufre was dragged behind a car and left with horrific injuries, the teenager who was allegedly behind the wheel has been charged.

Ms Giufre was found in Casula, in Sydney's southwest, last September, with head injuries and vision loss after being dragged several metres behind a car.

On Thursday Liverpool detectives charged an 18-year-old man with three offences, including dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm.

The young man, from Sydney's south-west, was issued a court attendance notice to front Liverpool Local Court in April.

Ms Giufre was released from hospital in December after spending months in the intensive care unit.

She suffered brain damage and lost vision in one eye.

At the time police said she had spent the day with her family before going with her cousin to see a friend in Casula.

Investigators alleged Ms Giufre, who had just completed a agricultural and landscaping TAFE course, later went to meet people she knew on Myall Road, where she was found injured.

Last October police released CCTV footage capturing the incident.
