A car fire has caused major traffic jams and shut down all westbound lanes on the Western Distributor in Darling Harbour this afternoon.

The blaze on Harris Street, which happened just before 5pm, closed off access to the Anzac Bridge from all motorists, causing large traffic delays.

All lanes have now been reopened, however there is still heavy traffic around the CBD, and cars are still queued across the Sydney Harbour Bridge, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.

Buses in the CBD leaving from Market City are experiencing a 20-minute delay.
