Aussie tech multimillionaire refuses to pay $20 laundry fee
An Australian entrepreneur worth about $300m has posted a heated rant after using a hotel bathtub to clean his shirts to save $20 in costs.
Kogan founder Ruslan Kogan took to X from a hotel bathroom to declare that he had “cut out the middle man”, turning the tub into a makeshift laundromat.

“I refuse to pay $20 to wash a $10 t-shirt. It doesn’t matter what kind of hotel I’m staying at,” the multi-millionaire said.
He noted that it was not uncommon for his hotel bathtubs to be used to clean his clothing while on holidays, claiming that it is much more efficient than paying for hotel laundry services.
“My family came to Australia in 1989 with $90. Growing up, I watched my parents meticulously stretch every single dollar.
“That approach to frugality didn’t just shape me personally, it became the DNA of Kogan.”
He added that he feels as if hotels are sabotaging themselves by inflating the prices of necessities such as laundry services.

“They completely kill their volume. If they just charged a reasonable amount for laundry services, they’d capture the massive hidden demand.”
The 43-year-old founded Kogan.com in 2006, and was listed as Australia’s richest person under the age of 30 from 2011 until his 30th birthday in 2012.
In 2020, the Australian Financial Review’s 2020 Rich List estimated Kogan’s net worth to be $575 million.
