Arrow-struck alleged intruder charged

A suspected burglar who was thought to have been shot in the buttocks by a bow-and-arrow-wielding homeowner is now facing charges.

It took police two days to track the 29-year-old alleged home invader to a Narellan Vale, in Sydney's southwest, and on Wednesday the man was charged with aggravated break and enter to commit a serious indictable offence, along with an outstanding warrant.

He allegedly targeted an elderly couple at their Wattle Grove home on Sunday evening, stealing cash and car keys before attempting to make a getaway in the residents' Nissan X-Trail.

But police believe he was thwarted by the 68-year-old man of the house, who took aim with his bow and arrow as the intruder scrambled over a back fence.

It appears the unlucky intruder did catch a small break: when police found their suspect, he was found to have suffered only bruising on his lower back.

The 29-year-old was arrested on Tuesday morning and refused bail to appear at Campbelltown Local Court on Wednesday.
