AOC takes on Telstra over Rio TV ad

Telstra has agreed not to broadcast any Olympic-related television spots for the next fortnight, as it prepares to take on the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) in court.

The committee launched legal action after the telco unveiled an "I go to Rio" marketing campaign - despite having severed sponsorship ties with the AOC last year.

The AOC has described Telstra's campaign as a "clear attempt to deceive Australians".

An urgent Federal Court hearing has now been scheduled for Thursday.

On Monday, following a brief directions hearing, Justice Michael Wigney noted that Telstra had "agreed not to broadcast on television the Rio TVC or the Samsung TVC, or any other Olympic-related TVCs, up to and including 31 July 2016".
