NSW teen dies in garbage truck collision

A 17-year-old girl has died and a child is in hospital after their car and a garbage truck collided in Port Macquarie.

The teenage driver died at the scene on Tuesday morning, while her young passenger has been taken to Port Macquarie Base Hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the garbage truck was uninjured and has had mandatory blood and urine tests.

Hastings River Drive in the NSW coastal town is closed in both directions.

It follows the death of a 12-year-old NSW boy who was hit by a ute in the Port Stephens area as he got off a school bus on Monday afternoon.
