Surf lifesavers in New South Wales have had a "near record-breaking" season with more than 4600 rescues along the coastline.

Volunteer lifesavers logged 13 million attendances during the season, which started in the September school holidays and finished on Anzac Day, according to preliminary figures.

Lifesavers took more than 810,704 preventative actions on the state's beaches and delivered first aid almost 10,000 times.

Meanwhile, 50 people have drowned at unpatrolled locations and outside of patrolled hours on the state's beaches since July 2022.

The Surf Lifesaving NSW state operations centre dealt with 2183 incidents and requested 418 ambulances over the course of the seven-month season.

"I am very proud of each and every one of our more than 76,000 volunteer members state-wide for their actions during the latest patrol season," president George Shales said.
