Police have seized an illegal radar detector from a Range Rover they pulled over on a major New South Wales highway.

A highway patrol officer detected the device which was fitted to the white Range Rover as it drove on Pacific Highway, in the Herons Creek area, on December 23.

The 51-year-old driver was issued an infringement notice, which slugs offending motorists with a fine of $2016 and nine demerit points.

Police can detect if a car has a radar detector from some distance away.

In NSW, an unrestricted driver is allowed a maximum of 13 demerit points before their license is suspended.
