A NSW man is missing in rugged terrain in a Victorian national park.

Police say the solo bushwalker became disoriented early Sunday afternoon and phoned Parks Victoria staff for directions back to a walking trail in the Grampians National Park.

The 50-year-old man was walking in the Mount Abrupt area of the park, in the state's west.

His car was found on Sunday in a tourist car park.

Conditions in the region were fine but cool on Sunday night.

Local police, the police air wing, Parks Victoria staff and State Emergency Service volunteers are now searching for the man.
