NSW man dies after car crashes into tree

A man has been killed after his car smashed into a tree in northern NSW.

Emergency services were called to Centre Street in Casino at 6:20am (AEDT) on Saturday after a Holden Commodore crashed into a tree.

Police say the 50-year-old male driver died at the scene.

A 42-year-old passenger was trapped in the wreckage.

He was freed and taken to Lismore Base Hospital with minor injuries.

Centre Street remains closed while police investigate the crash.
