NSW government unveils new strategy to crack down on retail crime
In a move to combat retail crime and keep workers safe, the NSW government has introduced a statewide strategy to prevent violent offenders from re-entering shops.
The Police Force Retail Crime Strategy aims to tackle offences against retail workers, such as assaults, intimidation, threats of violence, repeat offending and theft.
Operation Percentile is set to be rolled out statewide by NSW Police, barring violent, repeat offenders from entering stores by issuing Place Restriction Orders after they have been convicted.

The operation has been in place since August 2024 in the Central Metropolitan Region and was so successful that it is being rolled out statewide.
Since its launch in August 2024, 1080 people have been charged with over 1395 offences, recovering stock with an estimated value $960,500.
"No one should be attacked for simply doing their job," Police Minister Yasmin Catley said.
"Which is why the NSW Police, backed by the Minns government, is taking decisive action by giving police everything they need to keep the community safe."
The strategy was developed alongside the Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees' Association (SDA), the Australian Retailers Association, National Retail Association and the Shopping Centre Council.

Part of the new strategy is the introduction of high-visibility policing operations, including knife scanning in retail areas, to deter offenders.
Dedicated points of contact are also set to be established within each police region to support faster communication, coordination and response to incidents.
Monthly meetings between retailers across NSW will be held to discuss potential threats.
"Police will continue to collaborate closely with retailers and industry bodies to refine our disruption strategies and respond swiftly to emerging threats," NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon said.
