NSW Central Coast water supply safe to drink after E. coli alert

Residents on the NSW Central Coast have been told the local water supply is now safe to drink after they were issued instructions last night to boil anything coming out of the tap.
A "boil water alert" was issued by Central Coast Council last night after recent samples detected the presence of E. coli bacteria.
Suburbs affected included Terrigal, North Avoca, Avoca Beach, Copacabana, MacMasters Beach, Picketts Valley, Erina, Erina Heights and Kincumber.

However, in an update this afternoon, the council said the alert had been lifted and the water was supply was safe.

This can cause gastrointestinal illnesses such as diarrhoea.

Other symptoms to watch out for include stomach aches, nausea and vomiting.
In more serious cases, E. coli can also cause urinary tract infections, or illnesses such as pneumonia, meningitis in newborn babies and cholecystitis.
