Beale escapes disciplinary action over latest video

Wallabies veteran Kurtley Beale will not be disciplined after a second video emerged this week of him with "white powder".

Rugby Australia released a statement this afternoon addressing the video which was filmed shortly after the 2015 World Cup, where the New Zealand All Blacks defeated Australia 34 to 17.

“As with the first video which surfaced on Monday and was recorded in 2016, Kurtley was not seen in the vision, to be involved in the use of any illicit substances,” Chief Executive Raelene Castle said.

She said the 30-year-old spoke with Rugby Australia’s Integrity Unit yesterday after returning from a trip to New Zealand.

“Following this conversation, Rugby Australia has determined not to proceed with any formal disciplinary action over Kurtley’s appearance in the video,” she said.

Ms Castle said Beale had stressed his regret in besmirching his image and the reputation of the Wallabies by appearing in the videos. The fact they were old was considered.

On Tuesday, Beale was forced to apologise over the first video that re-emerged, which showed him and St George Dragon’s player Corey Norman laughing as an elderly man appears to snort a white substance off a plate.

The second video began with Beale playing a vacuum cleaner like a didgeridoo, then laughing before the camera crosses to another man holding a plate with what appears to be lines of white powder on it.

“These videos serve as a warning to every professional Rugby player in Australia of the risks associated with placing themselves in compromising situations, particularly in environments where illicit drugs may be present,” Ms Castle said.
