North Korean 'demands apology' for Brisbane mates golf prank

North Korea has reportedly demanded a public apology from two Aussies who bluffed their way into an international golf tournament despite being average golfers.

Brisbane mates Morgan Ruig and Evan Shay, both 28, gained international fame after Nine News revealed the pair posed as a touring Australian golf team to gain a spot in the competition.

But the travel agent who arranged the Pyongyang trip has reportedly told the pair North Korea wants them to "go back to make an official apology on live TV".

"Yeah, no … we won’t be doing that any time soon," Ruig told the Courier Mail.

"Years of hard labour in a North Korean prison doesn’t exactly appeal."

The pranksters, who had Australian badges and green jackets made up to pull off the ruse, spent five days touring Pyongyang as guests of the tournament.

They were only discovered when their terrible performance on the course gave the game away.

The pair say they finished second last at the tournament – just ahead of the Nepalese ambassador’s 15-year-old son – and were told by their caddy they would bring shame on their family.
