No vote yet on national corruption body

The Australian Greens have failed to force a parliamentary vote on their proposal to set up a national anti-corruption commission.

The minor party introduced a bill in November to establish a federal corruption watchdog similar to the independent commissions run by the states.

It wanted to scrutinise the relationship between businesses and political parties after revelations made during a corruption inquiry in NSW.

Neither the coalition nor the opposition support the proposal.

The Greens tried to put their bill to a vote in the Senate on Thursday but couldn't muster the numbers.

Greens leader Christine Milne said she was "disgusted" the major parties had used delaying tactics and warned the public wouldn't stand for it.
