No Indonesian troops to fight IS in Iraq

Indonesia has declined to send troops to fight Islamic State in Iraq, instead wanting to focus on tackling radicalisation at home.

Former Indonesian foreign minister Marty Natalegawa declined to say which country had asked Indonesia to supply troops to an international coalition in the Middle East, but said Jakarta was wary of a potential backlash at home.

"Our response at the time was our best contribution to fighting the ISIS menace would be to ensure that such an ideology ... does not proliferate in what is the world's largest Muslim populated country," he told a leadership conference at the Australian National University in Canberra on Monday.
