Multiple Nine stars recognised as Kennedy Awards finalists

The nominees for the 2022 Kennedy Awards have been announced, with multiple Nine stars up for gongs in what has been another massive year of news.

Judges said after exhausting weeks they had whittled down a record number of entries for the awards, which recognise excellence in journalism in NSW.

Across the Nine network there are three nominees for the Cliff Neville Award for Outstanding Team Player or Mentor, with Nine.com.au managing editor Brooke Campbell, 9Honey network editor Shauna Anderson, and Nine Gold Coast News senior journalist Petrina Zaphir all in the running.

Dimity Clancey is nominated for the Les Kennedy Award for Outstanding Crime Reporting for Jessica's Justice on A Current Affair.

A Current Affair host Tracy Grimshaw is nominated for Outstanding Political Reporting for her interview of Scott Morrison.

Also nominated in the same category is the on 60 Minutes team of Tom Steinfort, Sheree Gibson, Laura Sparkes, Luke Wilson, Matt Brown, Andrew Page and Renee Hudson for The President.

Ryan Grimshaw is nominated for the Gary Ticehurst Award for Outstanding News Camera Coverage for his reporting on the Lismore floods.

Nine's Carrie-Anne Greenbank, Jessica Miocevich, Shellie Doyle and Elizabeth Trethowan are jointly nominated for the Harry Potter Award for Outstanding Television News Reporting for their coverage of the war in Ukraine, alongside Jerrie Demasi from 9News Perth for her coverage of the WA health crisis.

Steve Marshall's TikTok Doc reporting for A Current Affair sees him nominated for the Mike Willesee Award for Outstanding Nightly Television Current Affairs.

Joel Tozer and Nick McKenzie's The Fallen Star on 60 Minutes is nominated for Outstanding Finance Reporting, as well as a joint Sydney Morning Herald and 60 Minutes entry for Liar Liar: Melissa Caddick and the Missing Millions, with the team made up of Kate McClymont, Tom Steinfort, Michael Evans, Tracey Hannaford and Dave McMillian.

Finally, Adele Ferguson and Joel Tozer's 60 Minutes story Bad Look - Exposing the dark underbelly of the cosmetic surgery industry is nominated for Outstanding Consumer Affairs Reporting.

"This year's finalists reflect the incredibly high standard of entries which augers well for the health of our media industry given the obstacles of digital disruption and pandemic we have all faced over the last two years," the Kennedy Awards said in a statement.

The winners will be announced at the Royal Randwick on August 12.
