More than 40 cars have been destroyed after a wrecking yard burst into flames in Sydney’s west overnight.

Approximately 50 firefighters responded to reports of a blaze in a car wrecking yard on Lee Holm Road in St Marys, arriving to find several vehicles alight.

Crews worked throughout the night to extinguish the fire, which ripped through a number of car bodies stacked on top of one another.

Huge flames broke out in the wrecking yard, but no neighbouring businesses were damaged.
