Police bust $900,000 hydroponic cannabis set-up in Sydney’s south

Police have cracked a large-scale hydroponic cannabis lab in Sydney’s south, seizing almost one million dollars’ worth of the drug.

Officers investigating the supply and distribution of cannabis throughout the Sutherland Shire region received a tip off about a home on Kingswood Road in Engadine.

Officers from the Sutherland Shire Police Area Command executed a search warrant on the property shortly after 8pm yesterday following inquiries by detectives.

The found a hydroponic setup inside, seizing 303 cannabis plants, including 500 grams of cannabis head, carrying an estimated potential street value of $897,000.

Police arrested a 57-year-old man at the home and took him to Sutherland Police Station.

He was charged with cultivating a large commercial quantity of a prohibited plant, using electricity without authority and supplying a prohibited drug.

He was refused bail and is due to appear at Sutherland Local court today.

Detectives have urged anyone with information about the cultivation and supply of cannabis to contact Crime Stoppers.
