Man who allegedly set Sydney petrol station on fire to face court
A 31-year-old man who was allegedly captured on CCTV lighting an inner-city Sydney petrol station on fire will face court today.
Police were called to a petrol station in Chippendale shortly after 2am on Tuesday, following reports a fire had been deliberately lit using fuel from one of the station’s pumps.
When they arrived, they found a 31-year-old man with knee and ankle injuries.

The man was arrested, and taken to Royal Prince Alfred hospital for assessment and treatment to non-life-threatening injuries.
The station’s CCTV system allegedly show the man crawling towards one of the station’s pumps, before pouring some fuel onto the ground and then setting it alight.
The station’s attendant rushed to extinguish the blaze, but was forced to go back inside when the man allegedly crawled over to a second pump to do the same.
The station operator shut off the fuel pumps and both fires self-extinguished, causing only minor damage to the station.
Following assessments of the man in hospital, police took the accused to Day Street Police Station where he was charged with two counts of damage to property by fire.
He was refused bail and is due to appear at Central Local Court today.
