Police hoping mobile can reveal final movements of woman who drowned at Sunshine Coast beach
Police are hoping the missing phone of a young woman who drowned at a popular Sunshine Coast swimming beach could help piece together her final moments.
Queensland Police today confirmed the 27-year-old woman’s body was found dressed in swimmers by an off-duty lifeguard at Dicky Beach, near Neill Street, around 5.15am this morning.
Preliminary information suggests the woman had gone swimming at an unknown location north of Dicky Beach where it is believed she then got into difficulties.

Senior sergeant Matt Campbell today told reporters that detectives are searching for the woman’s missing mobile phone in the hope it could shed light on the hours leading up to her tragic death.
“As one would imagine, it’s an absolute tragedy, certainly compounded by the fact that it was a young female,” he said.
“The family have only just been recently notified.

“What I will seek some community assistance with is finding the phone that belonged to that young girl. We believe that it’s a black S9 Samsung, so if anyone in the Caloundra beach area have come across such an item, we would be seeking to know that.”
He also confirmed that the woman is a local resident.
“Any loss of life is a tragedy, but as you can well imagine, when it’s a young person it just compounds it so much more,” he said.
“My sympathies go out to the family – just a horrible, horrible incident.”
A report will be prepared for the coroner. The death is not being treated as suspicious.
