Skateboarder critical after being hit by car on Victorian highway

A Melbourne man is fighting for life after he was struck by a car while riding a skateboard on a Victorian highway this morning.

Police believe the man, aged in his 20s, was skateboarding along the South Gippsland Highway when he was hit by the vehicle at Clyde about 5.05am.

He suffered life-threatening injuries to his head, neck, and chest, and was airlifted to hospital, Ambulance Victoria told 9News.

He remains in a critical condition.

The driver stopped and the scene and rendered assistance, police said.
