News Corp eyeing to sell Foxtel after receiving 'third party interest'

News Corp has indicated Foxtel could be sold amid a review of the company's assets.

News Corp owns a majority 65 per cent share of Foxtel, with the remainder owned by Telstra.

In its financial report today, chief executive Robert Thomson said there had been "third party interest" in Foxtel.

"We are evaluating options for the business with our advisors in light of that external interest," Thomson said.

He told analysts the company had to look at any interest "on behalf of the shareholders".

"You'll have to stay tuned. Not indefinitely, not perpetually, not ad infinitum," he said.

News Corp also owns streaming platforms Kayo and Binge.

Together with Foxtel, the company's subscription video services sector ended the year with 3.2 million customers.
