However the tree ruptured a gas main with fire crews remaining on standby while the service was cut off.

The State Emergency Service was called in to remove the tree which had also damaged the footpath as it fell.

Newington College has students ranging from K-12.

In 2016, the high school was evacuated as a precaution after a gas cylinder caught fire.

No staff or students were injured after the 9kg cylinder ignited.
