Tradies build home for free to raise funds for Daniher's FightMND

A double-storey home is being built for free in Melbourne’s south-east to raise money for Neale Daniher's fight against Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

Outfitted with a tool belt and flanked by tradies, the AFL and Essendon champ declared “let’s get to work” as he inspected the home at Clyde North.

Muscles wasting away to the fatal nerve disease, Daniher certainly hasn’t lost his sense of humour, joking with the crowd that he’d “love to pick up a tool and help” at this morning’s launch.

“I’ve got MND! So, sorry, I can’t help you,” the former farm-boy from country New South Wales said to laughs.

The slab is down and the frame already up for the 38-square, double-story home, which will be fully furnished and auctioned off in March, 2019.

It’s being built for free thanks to a partnership between Henley Homes and the Brown Property Group, with the help of some 200 tradesmen and suppliers.

Henley Homes’ Greg Papanikolaou, who lost his father-in-law to MND, told 9NEWS nothing would have been possible without Daniher’s leadership.

“It's fantastic. It’s pretty admirable of everyone, they're chipping in and not getting paid to be here. All for a great cause,” he said.

Every AFL coach hit the icy slide in fancy dress at the MCG on Queens Birthday, helping the FightMND foundation crack $30 million in life-time donations.

The money is critical to researching the nerve-disease, which still has no cure.

Daniher remains as determined as ever, saying, “we're thrilled with the support we're getting, but we've got a lot more work to do”.

“It's a grand property and I'll be there bidding away, so we'll get the price up.”

A ‘no reserve’ auction will be held on March 16, 2019, with the winning bid to be paid in full to FightMND.
