Gold Coast ‘bobcat superhero’ wishes to remain anonymous

A man police dubbed the “bobcat superhero”, after he stopped to clear debris from a crash on a Gold Coast highway, wishes to remain anonymous.

The Good Samaritan “stopped his truck, unloaded his bobcat and cleared all the trees of the motorway” after the crash at Pimpama, and was responsible for re-opening three lanes of the Pacific Motorway two hours early, police said.

“Like a true hero he left without anyone knowing who he was,” police wrote.

The Queensland Police Service launched a social media campaign to find #bobcatsuperhero, but his proud daughter has told 9NEWS that he preferred to remain anonymous.

“He just did what he could to help just like anyone else would have done in the same situation,” she said.

Four men are in serious but stable conditions after the crash, which happened when a truck crossed three lanes of traffic and hit an oncoming ute on the other side of the motorway.

The ute driver, a 28-year-old man, was trapped for close to an hour with a fractured leg and severe chest and head injuries.

“He was in a lot of pain, and has been treated by our paramedics,” Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman Pat Berry said.

His 17-year-old and 24-year-old passengers suffered broken collar bones, and all three patients were taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital.

The truck driver, a 53-year-old man, suffered head injuries.

“His side of the cabin was OK, the passenger side was completely crushed in,” witness Fred Mackie said.

“We were on our way to work we saw trees just explode in front of us, next thing we know truck just come across the oncoming traffic, it was just chaos.”

“It’s incredible not more people were injured at that time of the morning on the M1,” Senior Sergeant Arron Ottoway said.

Police are investigating the crash.
