Queensland MP kicked out of Labor party

Queensland MP Jimmy Sullivan has been kicked out of the Labor caucus and forced to sit on the crossbench.

Sullivan's expulsion comes after a tumultuous few months for the member for Stafford, in Brisbane.

Sullivan made a quick exit from parliament via a backdoor after his party kicked him out.

Labor MPs left the emergency vote stony faced as former premier Steven Miles delivered the verdict, which he said was unanimous.

"I will also be seeking the administrative committee of the ALP to remove his endorsement as a Labor member of parliament," he said.

The vote caps off a turbulent six months for Sullivan, starting when police were called to his house over an alleged domestic incident the day after the state election.

The matter was dismissed after a court appearance but the LNP didn't let it drop in parliament.

Sullivan accused the LNP of a lack of decency, as Labor MPs raised concerns privately.

"I thank my leadership team for giving the time and space to address my health issues," Sullivan said.

But Miles said he wasn't complying with a return to work plan.

"We've today taken strong action to ensure that a safe return to work plan is complied with and where it hasn't been complied with, we've acted," Miles said.

It is understood he had agreed not to drink at work events.

Sullivan said he has done nothing wrong and says he complied with every requirement placed on him.

He told 9News it was a "cheap political move".

He will continue to sit on the crossbench as an independent.
