'Extremely lucky' Movie World worker impaled by hammer drill

A contractor has been impaled by a hammer drill in a freak accident at the Village Roadshow studios on the Gold Coast.

9NEWS understands the power tool pierced at least 5cm into the 42-year-old's groin area, with firefighters scrambling to cut it free.

The man was working at a construction site at the film studios next to Movie World, when the incident unfolded just after 8am.

He was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

Paul Young from the Queensland Ambulance Service said was the worker was extremely lucky.

"It has (the drill bit) now been removed at the hospital and a scan has revealed that there is no internal injuries."

A Village Roadshow spokesman said: "The safety of our guests, team and contractors is our primary concern and we wish him a speedy recovery."
