Three dead as teen drives onto wrong side of road in Moorooka

A young boy has lost both his parents in a horror smash in Brisbane's south.

Witnesses say an 18-year-old was speeding 70km/h over the limit when he veered onto the wrong side of Ipswich Road at Moorooka, crashing head-on into a family's car, killing them within seconds. 

Sarah Mazi, 33, and her husband, Omer, 41, died at the scene. 

Mrs Mazi's brother, Matthew Furlong, paid tribute to the couple who leave behind a four-year-old son. 

"Some stage when he grows up (we will) be able to explain or shed some light on what's happened," he told 9NEWS. 

Moments before killing the parents, the P-plate driver of the Commodore also clipped another car with five friends on board. 

Their vehicle was sent spinning for metres, but all occupants emerged alive. 

Lachlan Fleming was behind the wheel, and was forced to take evasive action to dodge it. 

"Next minute there's a car in my lane coming towards me, in my mind I'm like what do I do?" he said.

"I reckon we would have died."

The young friends say they spotted the same Commodore hooning through the area only 15 minutes earlier, at speeds of up at 150km/h. 

Police are awaiting the results of a toxicology report and are investigating whether the 18-year-old's actions were deliberate. 

They are appealing for anyone who witnessed erratic driving or who has dash cam footage of the incident to contact them. 

"We ask anyone who did see anyone driving erratically on Ipswich Road, out bound, in the Moorooka magic mile or in the vicinity, at about 8pm or just before 8pm, to contact Crime Stoppers," Inspector Jeff Coote said. 

"Particularly if they have dash cam footage."
