Man arrested following Monash Freeway racing crash

A 20-year-old man has been arrested after a serious drag racing crash in Melbourne which left one man fighting for his life.

The crash occurred in Mulgrave after two cars were seen driving city bound on the Monash Freeway and appeared to be racing and weaving across lanes on Monday night.

A Ford ute lost control before it crashed into the Springvale Road overpass and rolled, leaving the 20-year-old driver with life-threatening injuries and his 18-year-old passenger, both from Dandenong, with non-life threatening injuries.

The other car, which was seen speeding alongside the crashed car between Wellington and Springvale roads prior to the crash, didn't stop and fled the scene.

This morning Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives arrested a 20-year-old man from Narre Warren South who is assisting with inquiries.

A car was found by police which will be seized as part of the investigation.
