Surfers Paradise gets testosterone boost with male Meter Maids

The Gold Coast’s famed Meter Maids have welcomed chiselled new colleagues in tiny gold shorts that would give Kylie Minogue a run for her money.

The coast’s first official Meter Men – barring Warwick Capper’s brief appearance – took to the streets of Surfers Paradise today to save tourists from pesky parking fines.

Finnish roommates Benjamin Ahlblad and Aram Dag, who’ve been in Australia just one month, told 9NEWS they were enjoying the female gaze.

“This is a dream job for me,” laughed Mr Dag, who has opted to wear the less revealing gold board shorts.

It was also the first day on the job for Meter Maid Camille Shakespeare, 19.

“I think it’s great. It feels safer being with a guy, and they’re hot. It’s great for the ladies too,” Ms Shakespeare said.

Chief executive Roberta Aitchison said the men had “put a whole new light on the concept” and should be a hit during Schoolies.
“It’s always been about the boys having photos with the girls so I think now it’s time to sort of gender equality.

“I think they’re fun and that makes such a difference. You’ve got to have fun.

“If it’s not going to work and if people don’t like it then I’ll just put the girls back together. I’ll see what works.The girls have been wanted for 52 years now so hopefully the boys follow that.”
