Meta says it's "99 per cent of the way there" to fixing a global outage affecting Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and Threads.

Users have been struggling to access the platforms since 4.30am AEDT.

Downdetector, a site that monitors online disruptions, has received more than 150,000 complaints regarding these platforms.

"We're aware that a technical issue is impacting some users' ability to access our apps. We're working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and apologise for any inconvenience," the statement read.

In an update, Meta thanked its users for being patient.

"Thanks for bearing with us! We're 99 per cent of the way there - just doing some last checks. We apologize to those who've been affected by the outage," an updated statement said.
