A man accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl on a Melbourne bus has released on bail.

The 46-year-old Dandenong man allegedly boarded a bus from Hallam to Narre Warren, in Melbourne’s south east, on September 17 and approached the 17-year-old girl.

The teen was sitting on the bus with her bag on the seat next to her when she was approached.

The man, who was unknown to the 17-year-old girl, removed the bag from the seat and placed it on her lap.

Police allege the man then sexually assaulted the girl and made inappropriate conversation, before getting off the bus at a shopping centre on Overland Drive.

Police said the man was arrested yesterday and was charged with one count of sexual assault.

He was later released on bail to appear at Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on December 20.
