Rideshare driver charged with alleged rape of young woman in Melbourne

A 43-year-old rideshare driver has been charged following the alleged rape of a woman in Melbourne.

Police allege the 19-year-old woman got into a car she believed was a rideshare service shortly before 2am on Monday and was allegedly sexually assaulted by Mohamad Yahiya.

It's understood the woman had been leaving Caramel nightclub in Banana Alley.

Yahiya was arrested at his home in Pakenham yesterday.

Sexual Crime Squad detectives charged him with rape and false imprisonment.

His rideshare licence has been suspended.

He faced the Melbourne Magistrates' Court today where his bail was refused.

Yahiya is due to face court again in September.
