Police have released a computer-generated image of a man they want to talk to about a suspected sexual assault on a Melbourne tram.

A 25-year-old woman was on the number six tram heading from the city to Moreland Road, Brunswick, on August 7.

Detectives were told a man got on at Blyth and Lygon streets about 6.40pm and sexually assaulted the victim while sitting next to her.
