Speed camera car rammed multiple times in Melbourne

A traffic camera vehicle has been damaged after it was rammed multiple times in Melbourne's north on the Queen's Birthday public holiday.

Police say someone driving a four-wheel drive crashed into the mobile speed camera, ramming the vehicle several times at around 1.40am yesterday in Craigieburn Road East, Wollert.

The camera operator inside was uninjured but their car was left battered and had to be towed from the scene.

Police say the offending vehicle was a black or dark grey older-model Nissan Navara ute, and have urged urged panel beaters to be on the lookout for matching cars requiring front-end repairs.

Investigators would like to speak to anyone who saw a vehicle matching the description in the area around the time of the incident.

The incident is the second such one involving a mobile speed camera in Victoria recently.

Early last month, a man allegedly used a metal pole to smash the wing mirrors of a speed camera vehicle.
