Body found in Melbourne river during search for missing man

A man's body has been found in the search for a missing 39-year-old who went missing by the Yarra River in Melbourne's north-east almost two days ago.

The body is yet to be formally identified, but police believe it is the body of the man who was last seen about 3pm on Saturday.

The man was with friends at Taroona Reserve in Warrandyte on Saturday, January 14 when he walked down a path toward the river by himself.

He didn't return and the friends called police.

Victoria Police's Air Wing as well as Search and Rescue divers searched the water and surrounding area yesterday and this morning.

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
