Police pelted with paint bombs at Pride march in Melbourne
Police taking part in a Pride march in Melbourne have been pelted with paint bombs and abused.
About 100 Victoria Police members, including some with their children, marched today as part of the Midsumma Pride festival in the beachside suburb of St Kilda.
Victoria Police said they were "confronted" by "up to 50" protesters soon after the march started.

"The protesters surrounded the Victoria Police contingent on three sides, attempting to stop members from marching," police said.
"They also threw a number of items at members."
More police offices were called in to remove the protesters, one of whom was arrested for allegedly assaulting a spectator.

"Victoria Police is disappointed that there was a small group of people intent on disrupting what is a proud and inclusive day," Victoria Police said.
"Today should be a celebration and not one of hate, we are proud of our members who were able to complete the march in a hostile environment."
The protesters didn't overshadow the Pride march, with Victorians dancing their way along Fitzroy Street in a celebration of equality.
Organisers say the event has tripled in popularity over the past 10 years.
