Melbourne man rams his own car to stop alleged car thief

An alleged car thief is in hospital after being chased by the car's owner in Reservoir, north of Melbourne, this morning.
A Reservoir man woke just after 5am to hear his Nissan being stolen from the driveway of his Myrtle Street home.

He followed the car thief in another vehicle, before catching up with him in Regent Street and smashing into his own car.
The offender was injured in the crash and has been taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
The car's owner is assisting police with their investigation.
