Two men wanted after hit-and-run in Melbourne's south-east leaves one dead and another fighting for life
Police are looking for two men after a car hit two road workers in Melbourne's south-east early this morning, killing one and critically injuring the other, before the driver fled the scene.
The driver, and a man who picked him up in another car to help him flee the scene, are wanted by police.
Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Jarrod Dwyer said two road workers were setting up cones on the road near the corner of Hall Road and Lats Avenue in Carrum Downs at 7.15am today when they were struck by a red Holden.

Senior Sergeant Dwyer said the Holden was travelling "well and truly above the 40km/h" speed limit when it hit the two men, then crashed into the workers' ute, forcing the vehicle into a tree on the median strip.
One worker, a 44-year-old Bayswater man, suffered fatal injuries, while a 38-year-old Traralgon man was airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Senior Sergeant Dwyer said two good Samaritans stopped to help at the scene, and when they went to assist the driver, he got out of the car and ran from the scene.
One witness chased him but lost track of him. He is believed to have minor facial injuries.

According to police, the driver was then picked up on Rowellyn Avenue by a man driving a black Hyundai SUV.
It was last seen heading eastbound on Ballerto Road at 7.45am.

Senior Sergeant Dwyer said the driver's decision to flee was cowardly.
"It's just a callous, cold act," he said.
"It's the act of a coward."
Police, including the Air Wing, are currently searching for the men and the Hyundai.
The driver is said to be Caucasian and aged in his 30s.
