Cops 'with guns drawn' storm Melbourne Central

Armed police have stormed Melbourne Central after reports a man was armed with a knife.

Transit Police flooded the popular shopping centre via Lonsdale Street just after 8.30am and searched a man, 3AW reports.

"Something going on Lonsdale Street @ Melb Central. Police just ran in with guns drawn!" a passer-by tweeted.

Police tracked down a 40-year-old Boronia man and issued him an infringement notice for possessing a controlled weapon.

Authorities do not believe there is any threat to the public.
