Measles case in Brisbane's southside

People in Brisbane's southside are being warned to watch out for the symptoms of measles after a person was diagnosed with the highly infectious viral disease.

Queensland Health physician Dr Bhakti Vasant warned further cases could come up because of the large numbers of people potentially exposed to the infectious person.

It's believed they visited Victoria Point Mall, Norm Price Park at Redland Showgrounds, Aldi supermarket in Victoria Point, Carmel College in Thornlands, Cleveland's Good Life Gym, and Princess Polly warehouse sale at Highland Park between February 16 and 23.

People who were in those locations at those times should watch for symptoms which usually start seven to 10 days after infection.

"Measles is a serious viral infection that causes fever, cough, runny nose, then a red spotty rash and sore eyes a few days later," Dr Vasant said in a statement on Thursday.
