MasterChef judge George Calombaris is expected to face a Sydney court after he allegedly assaulted a young man at last month's A-League grand final.

Calombaris, 38, reacted when he was heckled by Sydney fans as he walked onto the sidelines at Allianz Stadium on May 7.

NSW Police allege Calombaris, a Victory supporter, assaulted a 19-year-old man after Sydney's championship win.

The Network Ten personality has been charged with common assault and is expected to face the Downing Centre Local Court today.

The celebrity chef apologised the day after the incident, stating he was disappointed he'd let the Sydney fans' heckling get to him.

"While I am not proud of my reaction to the situation, I was offended by a spectator yelling out abusive and derogatory comments about my family," he said in a statement.

"I'm truly sorry this has happened."
