Dirty work: mountain of garbage blocks western Sydney street

A massive mountain of household rubbish is blocking a residential street in western Sydney.

The load was dumped from a council garbage truck on Budgeree Road, Toongabbie, after the driver noticed smoke coming from the rear of his vehicle.

Paper in the waste collection had caught fire and the only way to save the truck was to get the load out quickly.

Firefighters were called just before midday and managed to extinguish the blaze before it spread.

A clean-up operation is now underway.
