Violent brawl mars end of Sydney Royal Easter Show

Two people have been arrested after police officers were injured in a wild brawl that marred the final night of Sydney’s Royal Easter Show.

Families ducked for cover as terrified witnesses filmed the violence - involving up to 100 people - on their mobile phones at Olympic Park train station.

An initial disagreement began in the carnival area of the Royal Easter show between two large groups of men, one from Campbelltown and the other from the inner west.

They were ejected from the show at closing time, and the fight flared up on the train station.

Police understand a 19-year-old was encouraging others to fight, and allegedly kicked a senior constable in the stomach, while another man, 18, allegedly struck a female officer in the head with a traffic cone.

The 18-year-old allegedly continued to punch police officers as they tried to arrest him.

Police used capsicum spray to try to quell the crowd, as families and children took shelter at the sight of the violence.

Two men have been charged, but once police have viewed CCTV there may be more arrests.
