Cops' heartwarming harbour treat for sick kids

Six terminally-ill children who’ve been calling hospital home have been treated to a special outing on Sydney Harbour with NSW Police.

The children and their families and carers donned life jackets and were taken for a spin around the harbour courtesy of the Marine Area Command.

They were given an opportunity to meet with police divers, inspect their equipment and tour their unit before their boat adventure.

“It was the funnest time I’d had in a long time,” one of the boys said.

They were even allowed to help steer the boat and were presented with a medal to help remember the day.

“Our mission today is simple, to have a bit of fun, put some smiles on some faces with a couple of boat rides and a BBQ," a Marine Area Command spokesman said. 

The children, who had the opportunity to leave their wards Children’s Hospital at Westmead for the day, were then treated to a BBQ lunch attended by Police Minister Troy Grant.

“These kids are battling tough circumstances … this is a wonderful opportunity to get them out of the confines of the hospital,” Mr Grant said.
