"Early trauma intervention is vital, and KidsXpress' progressive approach is having positive and long-term results," Mrs Abbott said.

The Prime Minister's wife praised the organisation for its intervention strategies, saying they will help to reduce some of the long-term effects suffered by victims that include broken relationships, mental illness and unemployment.

"It costs $2500 to put each child through the program and there are thousands of Australian kids in need of progressive intervention to ensure they have a happier personal, family and community life," KidsXpress CEO and Founder, Margo Ward, said.

Mrs Abbott has a long involvement with a number of charities including the Royal Blind Society and Girl Guides.
