Man's body trapped in sunken boat after pontoon fire in Queensland
Police are working to retrieve the body of a New Zealand man who died in a ferocious boat fire at a marina on Magnetic Island, off the coast of north Queensland.
Dramatic video from the scene shows two private boats well alight with strong winds spreading the flames.
Today, the man who perished in the fire remains trapped on the sunken boat, which is entwined with the shell of the other ravaged vessel.
“The two boats here were on fire, and there were flames everywhere, it was huge,” one witness told 9NEWS.
One man suffered burns when he climbed aboard his boat and moved it to another pontoon.
Geoff Byers said he was injured when an explosion knocked him to the ground.
Investigators will now work to determine the cause of the blaze.
