Man sits atop a 4WD as it navigates crocodile infested waters

A man who sat atop a 4WD as he guided the vehicle across a flooded river in the Northern Territory is lucky to have made it to the other side in one piece.

Murky water threatened to sweep the Land Cruiser away, with the daring navigator’s feet barely a metre from the croc-infested waterway.

But he did not appear concerned despite NT authorities issuing numerous safety warnings about crossing flooded roadways following a history of fatal crocodile attacks - the latest victim a 47-year-old man killed walking across the notorious Cahill's Crossing in January.

The troopie can be seen swaying in the water as the current pulled it off course but the driver managed to find ground and miraculously completed the dangerous crossing without incident.

A video of the foolhardy feat posted to Facebook on Saturday showed the man on top giving onlookers an exuberant thumbs-up after making it to the other side of the river.

NT Police said the men involved committed "several offences" in the video, but prosecution was unlikely given there was little information about where or when it happened, NT News reported.

Nine.com.au has contacted the man who posted the video online.
