Experienced pilot dies as glider spins out of control in Victoria
A man who died after losing control of his glider was an experienced pilot who was well-known by his community.
The 71-year-old man from Croydon was gliding at Chesney Vale in Victoria’s north-east when he crash landed into a paddock at 1.40pm.
People driving past reportedly noticed the glider spiralling out of control before it hit the ground and immediately called police.
Emergency services were on the scene within 10 minutes of the accident but the man died at the scene.
Acting Senior Sergeant Harry Verbaken told 9NEWS the man was well-known in the community.
“Everybody knows everybody so yes, this will hit hard across a whole range of areas,” he said.
Police will now inspect the glider for faults.
A coroner will also investigate if the man had any pre-existing health conditions.
